Where Clemson’s Swinney Ranks Among ACC’s Best In October
Fact Checked by Thomas Leary

Few college football coaches have reached the pinnacle of everlasting success that Clemson’s Dabo Swinney has since taking over the head coaching role at the South Carolina institution in 2009. The 53-year-old former Alabama wideout has led Clemson to 161 wins and a pair of CFP titles in 2016 and 2018, guiding the school to unprecedented heights behind star-studded rosters galore. If only South Carolina sports betting could have gotten in on the fun.

While the Tigers have bumbled out of the gate a bit - in falling on the road to unranked Duke to open the year before shellacking FCS program Charleston Southern and AAC school FAU by total scores of 104-31 — there’s no denying the impact that Swinney’s had on the South Carolina program over the last 14 years.

As we get into the heart of the CFB season, BetSouthCarolina.com utilized records from Sports-Reference.com to see which ACC coaches have the best record in the month of October. Coaches must have minimum three years’ experience to qualify.

Current ACC Coaches Record in October

Coach Oct. Record Winning Percentage
Dabo Swinney, Clemson 48-9 .842
Mack Brown, North Carolina 92-43-1 .680
Jeff Brohm, Louisville 20-14 .588
Mike Norvell, Florida State 16-12 .571
Dino Babers, Syracuse 22-18 .549
Pat Narduzzi, Pitt 16-15 .516
Dave Doeren, NC State 22-21 .512
Mario Cristobal, Miami 18-20 .460
Dave Clawson, Wake Forest 40-47 .472
Jeff Hafley, Boston College 3-10 .231

Swinney the Class of the ACC in October

Unsurprisingly, Swinney leads the ACC in October win percentage, going 48-9 (.842) during the 10th month of the year. Overall, that win total places Swinney second overall, behind UNC’s Mack Brown (92 wins), though there’s no touching the longtime college coach’s eye-popping win percentage during the month. In 2023, the Tigers will look to improve that percentage with games against Wake Forest (at home on Oct. 7) and road clashes against No. 20 Miami (on Oct. 21) and NC State (on Oct. 28).

While only one of the three is currently ranked, there’s no denying that the Demon Deacons, Hurricanes and Wolfpack will put Clemson’s youthful roster to the test, ahead of November showdowns with No. 9 Notre Dame (Nov. 4) and No. 17 UNC (Nov. 18) in Death Valley.

For now, Clemson fans can rest soundly knowing that their head coach is the ACC’s best in October, at least when it comes to overall win percentage during the spookiest month of the year.
