What Topics Did South Carolina Residents Search For The Most This Year?

The only thing more varied than the topography of the state of South Carolina might be the things Palmetto State residents searched Google for during the year that was. Between Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin and a handful of AI-related topics, there was no shortage of eclectic items South Carolinians searched for the most in 2023, though several emerged from the fray.  

Breaking down those topics on a year-over-year basis allows us to glean which subjects South Carolina residents looked to Google for the most in 2023, while giving us an idea of which topics residents care about the most as we look forward to 2024.  

Utilizing Google Trends, BetSouthCarolina.com took a break from South Carolina sports betting updates and analyzed the most searched terms in the state of South Carolina from Jan. 1, 2023 to Dec. 10, 2023. We finalized the Top 10 queries by utilizing the terms that have seen the biggest increase in search volume over the year of 2023.

What Did South Carolina Residents Search For In 2023

The top year-over-year subjects, search traffic-wise, in 2023 were “Damar Hamlin” (+2,400% year-over-year), “ChatGPT” (+2,000%) and “Temu” (+1,350%) — illustrating how strange the results can be when you break down such a wide spectrum of search data.  

Those three topics beat out “Weather 10 Days” (+1,150% year-over-year), “Colorado Football” (+950%) and “Super Bowl 2023” (+750%) in South Carolina, which paints a pretty good picture of how football-crazed South Carolina is, regardless of how the Gamecocks and Tigers are performing at the moment.  

Rounding out the list in the Palmetto State in 2023 were “Streameast” (+190%), “Gimkit” (+90%), “Canva” (+70%), “Eagles” and “Lakers” (+60% each) — showing how much demand there is for online streaming of sports and the popularity of the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Lakers in South Carolina at the moment.
